Excerpt from Broadwayworld.com

There is a wonderful event coming up in Toronto that is uniting the arts community in the fight against cancer…

The purpose of “I Move Forward” is to raise awareness and money for people in the arts community who are sick and struggling with finances as a result of being in a business that (more often than not) does not offer any sort of medical and benefit coverage.

The event will bring together many stars of the Toronto and North American theatre communites for one night only in an attempt to raise money for the cause. It will be a collaborative evening of music and dance not to be missed, with a focus on celebrating triumph and survival. In addition to all the Canadian talent coming out … it has been confirmed that Broadway star Gavin Creel (most recently of HAIR) will be heading North to lend his support as well.

Jane Mallett Theatre at the St. Lawrence Centre for the Arts

TORONTO- On October 25th at the Jane Mallet Theatre, I Move Forward , a benefit for the Actors’ Fund raised over $40,000 for artists whose lives have been touched by cancer. Created by Jen Shuber, Mitchell Marcus and Marc Kimelman (in honour of Marc Kimelman’s successful battle with cancer), the event featured an amazing array of musicians, singers, dancers and actors, all of whom were there to help raise money for artists living with cancer.

Inspiring and beautiful, the show featured speeches and performances from cancer survivors that emphasised the importance of attitude in beating cancer. With over 100 artists donating their exceptional talents including Thom Allison, Jewelle Blackman, Bruce Dow, Sara Farb, Nate Ferraro, Jeigh Madjus, Sharron Matthews, Jamie McKnight, Paul Nolan, Yvan Pednault, Cleo Williams and many more, the program was amazing and diverse.

One of the amazing things about the artistic community is how far they will go to help one another” said Actors’ Fund Executive Director, David Hope. “The money raised by I Move Forward will go a long way to ensuring that cancer patients who seek our help will receive assistance as they work to recover.”
